Will Glenfield grow by over 40%?
For a six week period starting 6 November 2008 Blaby District Council will be consulting about what would be the best location for the 8,650 houses together with large employment sites that are required within the district between now and 2026.
A 90 hectare (222 acres) area of land within Glenfield is one of the proposed key development sites and this area would have to accomodate some 2,000 houses. In the same proposals, if the area is not used for housing then it is proposed that it be used as an employment site.
Glenfield Parish Council is seeking further information at the council meeting on 17 November 2008 and there is to be a full display of the proposals at Park House on 8 December 2008, starting at 4:00 pm and ending at 8:30 pm.
The proposals could have a huge impact upon Glenfield and residents are encouraged to send their views to Blaby District Council. This can be achieved electronically by using the available form on the Blaby District Council website, by sending an email or by writing to the Corporate Head of Policy and Projects, Blaby District Council, Council Offices, Desford Road, Narborough, Leicester, LE19 2EP.
Glenfield Parish Council has produced a summary of the proposals. The full proposal (Alternative Options) is available on line. The White Green Young report that was used by Blaby District Council whilst formulating its proposals is also available on line. The appendicies of the Blaby proposals give drawings of the proposed development area.

Get Smart with Burglars
A revolutionary crime prevention initiative is being launched to warn burglars to stay away from homes in Glenfield.
All 4,500 homes in Glenfield are being invited by the Parish Council to get smart to burglars and security mark their property with SmartWater.
The Neighbourhood Policing Unit is working in partnership with the Glenfield Parish Council and hopes every house hold in the area will join up to the scheme.
Tony Robotham, Clerk to the Parish Council, said: “We are a thriving community in Glenfield and we want to Smartwater the area to reduce the threat of burglary.
“Glenfield Parish Council is the sponsor of this Smartwater scheme and residents may join through contact with the parish offices.”
Smartwater is a clear, water-based solution which is simply painted onto an item. Each brushstroke contains microscopic particles encoded with a unique identification number which is only visible under ultra-violet light. Officers can then easily identify the rightful owners of stolen goods and return them.
PC Matt Turner, beat officer for Glenfield, said: “The beat team have committed themselves to working in close partnership with the Glenfield Parish Council and Smarwater is a further demonstration of this commitment and follows the provision of a police office, head cameras, No Cold Calling zones and web access to the local officers.
“The partnership has been developed to include Glenfield’s Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and Glenfield’s Police Volunteers. Members of the partnership meet regularly to discuss policing issues and develop solutions. The Smartwater initiative will help to combat burglaries within Glenfield.”
To get hold of your SmartWater please visit the parish council offices.
